New Designs

Coming soon is a new name and new look for our soda crystals… contemporary packaging with clearer labelling to better reflect their features and benefits.  It’s been fun working with the designer to create an image in keeping with the re-branding project completed by our Australian supplier.

We’ve maintained our profile in the media with re-designed adverts and several reader promotions in Your Fitness (formally Body Fit) magazine and Natural Health, through the summer and autumn. The aim is to showcase the effectiveness of the crystals plus our unique cotton applicator wrap, which work so well together over a swollen limb or joint – ours is possibly the only brand on the market that can claim to reduce swelling by using the wrap method to draw out fluid.

Sportsmen and athletes love the crystals but there are so many others who also find them highly beneficial. We’ve had Zumba fans bathing in them after a work-out, gardeners after a back-breaking job and executive secretaries wearing wrist supports with crystal pockets to relieve the ache and puffiness of carpel tunnel syndrome.

Here at Bowen Supplies HQ the packing team and I regularly bathe in them (not together, you understand!) after a busy day preparing orders for distribution and you can read lots of testimonials on the website. We also share on Facebook and welcome your comments and feedback on all our specialist wellness products:

Melbourne

Spent a happy four days in this south Australian city and walked the streets up to the Melbourne Museum and down to Federation Square. Enjoyed the Anzac Exhibition and lots of Aussie art at the National Gallery of Victoria. Joined the crowds watching a busker in the square and dodged the trams. Couldn’t resist taking a photo of the 10ml roller ball Bowtech Ease which I posted to Facebook.https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bowen-Supplies-by-Helen-Perkins

Visited our soda crystals supplier to discuss a joint re-branding project (more on that later this year) and were given a tour of the plant where the mined crystals are brought in and processed… see the lovely photo below!

Enjoyed the views of the Yarra and beyond from our hotel Sofitel on Collins, which looked truly stunning at night, dined at Saigon Sally  - fusion Asian menu and great surroundings - and my  friend (and marketing consultant) who was with me met her pen friend for the first time. They started writing aged eight, extraordinary in these days of social media, and had a lovely day at St Kilda’s. All in all a memorable trip down under.

The Tweaky Lady

I’m sometimes called the ‘tweaky lady’ by clients, a term of endearment I hope! I’ve been called various names as I’m sure many therapist colleagues have too, such as ‘the foot lady’ when I started reflexology. It is an affectionate description and perhaps indicates the name of the therapy may be hard to remember. In this case it refers to the Bowen Technique… as certain moves over tight muscles are so simple and relieving - all they need is a little tweak!

Many of my home-visit clients rely on me for such therapeutic relief, whether they are stuck in bed or a chair recovering from a fall or fracture or have a condition like MS or ME which affects mobility. I often take products from Bowen Supplies for the client to use after I've left like the Lectric soda crystals and pack for a swollen knee. Reflexology and the Bowen Technique both bring into play the role of the autonomic nervous system which helps restore natural healing to the entire body and thus the affected part.

When I worked in the Flying Doctor clinics in the outback of Australia, where stockmen often fell from their horse, I was usually called for by the matron to carry out that ‘tweaky thing’ once the patient had the all-clear on any other health concerns. By any name and in any country, I believe the Bowen Technique is here to stay and becoming even more recognised and accepted in the mainstream.

Drop me a note and let me know what you think?

The Handy Bottle

From handbags to sports bags and glove boxes to golf trolleys, the 10ml rollerball can be kept almost anywhere! Just reach for the bottle, unscrew the cap and roll over a sore area. Press it in if it is a joint that is causing you pain… and don’t forget that in the days after a Bowen Technique treatment you should always press rather than massage, as this can undo the benefits of the treatment.

At any other time, press in or massage the oil for sore calves, back and other muscular aches and pains. See my Facebook page for feedback from ski-ing enthusiasts!

One of my customers buys five in a box and then has them individually placed in different rooms around the house; as she has difficulty walking she can find one at any time. She tells me it soothes her arthritic fingers and will often apply while sitting watching telly.

The price of this handy bottle will stay below £10.00 until January 31st when it will go up to £11.99; some discount bulk buys will still be available. Don’t forget to pack it in your travel luggage too. Check out shopping online here: www.bowensuppliesbyhelen.com/bowtech-shop/

Bowen training in Peterborough

Bowtech Bowen training has arrived in Peterborough. This light touch Australian therapy teaches students how to assist injured or aching joints, strained muscles and other health-related conditions that often produce pain or discomfort. Foremost it provides relaxation and feelings of well-being – a gentle approach far different from deep manipulative therapies.

The course is nine months in duration and module one started in October. It went well with basic procedures taught and an introduction to the role of Bowen therapist. Module two is at the beginning of November with new procedures and preparation for case studies. The month of December will be for students to begin practising at home ready for module three in January.

There will be an opportunity to enrol on a new course in 2014 with an interest-only one-day workshop in January called ‘Introduction to the Bowen Technique.’ Check out my therapy and training website www.helenperkins.com diary or return here for more updates.
