The Tweaky Lady

I’m sometimes called the ‘tweaky lady’ by clients, a term of endearment I hope! I’ve been called various names as I’m sure many therapist colleagues have too, such as ‘the foot lady’ when I started reflexology. It is an affectionate description and perhaps indicates the name of the therapy may be hard to remember. In this case it refers to the Bowen Technique… as certain moves over tight muscles are so simple and relieving - all they need is a little tweak!

Many of my home-visit clients rely on me for such therapeutic relief, whether they are stuck in bed or a chair recovering from a fall or fracture or have a condition like MS or ME which affects mobility. I often take products from Bowen Supplies for the client to use after I've left like the Lectric soda crystals and pack for a swollen knee. Reflexology and the Bowen Technique both bring into play the role of the autonomic nervous system which helps restore natural healing to the entire body and thus the affected part.

When I worked in the Flying Doctor clinics in the outback of Australia, where stockmen often fell from their horse, I was usually called for by the matron to carry out that ‘tweaky thing’ once the patient had the all-clear on any other health concerns. By any name and in any country, I believe the Bowen Technique is here to stay and becoming even more recognised and accepted in the mainstream.

Drop me a note and let me know what you think?
